Raining in the Desert

I returned to Dubai a few days back. A welcome release from the mundane was the Sunday rain. I sat in my lounge, glued to the window, as the sky darkened to a blackish blue. I know rain makes some people sad but that day it made me smile. I just waited as the sky deepened. I waited for rain, a rare treat after the scorching summer. The rain came pouring down and raindrops fell like memories on my umbrella as I hurried down my street to get one of my friends out of her flat. Nothing could keep me indoors that day.

Today, the sky blackened again, but this time around it did not rain. Nevertheless it was again an excuse to trot down to the nearest Marble Slab Creamery and wolf down scoops of ice cream. We later had to have steaming lattes to stop our teeth chattering from cold.
